Fucoidan, is a Marine complex polysaccharide substance composed of fucose containing sulfuric acid. The content of algal polysaccharide in brown algae is very small, about 0.1% in fresh kelp and about 1% in dry kelp, which is a very valuable algal active substance.
Fucoidan are produced by brown algae to protect themselves in harsh environments. When brown algae is exposed to direct sunlight, the algae polysaccharide can prevent its drying and act as a moisturizer.
