Demoxepam is a major metabolite of Chlordiazepoxide. Demoxepam showed cytotoxic activity against cancer cell lines. Demoxepam has anticonvulsant and antianxiety effects.

5-chloro-3-phenylbenzoisoxazole was synthesized by cyclic synthesis of p-nitrochlorobenzene and benzyl nitrile in ethanol with the participation of sodium hydroxide, then 2-amino-5-chlorobenzophenone was obtained by reduction and ring-opening with iron powder and hydrochloric acid, and then 2-amino-5-chlorobenzophenone oxime was obtained by hydroxylamine hydrochloride. The latter was combined with chloroacetyl chloride to obtain 6-chloro-2-chloromethyl-4-phenylquinazolin-3-oxide, which was then expanded under the action of sodium hydroxide to obtain the product.
