Lead iodide is also called "lead diiodide". Chemical formula PbI2. Yellow powder, soluble in potassium iodide, sodium iodide and alkali solution, insoluble in water and alcohol. Melting point :402℃ Boiling point :954℃ Density :6.16 molecular weight 461.00. Bright yellow heavy hexagonal powder or crystal. No smell. The melting point is 402℃, the boiling point is 954℃, and the relative density is 6.16. When ultraviolet radiation is emitted, photoelectrons are emitted, and light in the air is easy to decompose. Slightly soluble in hot water, slightly soluble in cold water, hot aniline, easily soluble in sodium thiosulfate solution, soluble in concentrated potassium iodide and concentrated sodium acetate solution, insoluble in ethanol and cold concentrated hydrochloric acid. Reaction with sodium sulfide solution to produce lead sulfide precipitate. Lead carbonate precipitates after interaction with alkali metal and alkaline earth metal carbonate solution. Its basic salt is "basic lead iodide", the chemical formula is PbI2·PbO·H2O, the relative density is 6.83, and the decomposition is at 100℃. Seal and store away from light.

Physical and Chemical Properties Lead iodide is a bright yellow heavy powder or hexagonal scale crystal, the molecular formula is PbI, no smell, high melting point and boiling point. At room temperature, a bright yellow odorless crystalline solid turned orange and red after heating. The solubility in water increases with increasing temperature.
lead iodide is used as a precursor material for the fabrication of high-efficiency solar cells, and PbI2 can also be used as a high-energy photon detector for gamma rays and X-rays. Lead iodide has also been used as a pigment called yellow iodide, but has been eliminated due to toxicity and instability.
