Benzyl benzoate is an organic compound with the formula C14H12O2, colorless oily liquid, insoluble in water. Slightly soluble in malonediphthalein. Soluble in oil, ethanol, ether. It has a light almond-like aroma and a spicy taste. It can be obtained by synthetic reaction of sodium benzoate and benzyl chloride as raw materials. 1. Used as a solvent and flavor setting agent for musk, and used as a substitute for camphor in celluloid.
