Benzyl benzoate is an organic compound with the formula C14H12O2, colorless oily liquid, insoluble in water. Slightly soluble in malonediphthalein. Soluble in oil, ethanol, ether. It has a light almond-like aroma and a spicy taste. It can be obtained by synthetic reaction of sodium benzoate and benzyl chloride as raw materials. It is mainly used as the solvent of artificial musk, vanillin and other spices, the fixing agent of flower flavor and the blending spice of ylang ylang and other flavors. Clinically used for scabies, but also for body lice, head lice and pubic lice.
