Benzyl Benzoate

Benzyl benzoate is an organic compound with the formula C14H12O2, colorless oily liquid, insoluble in water. Slightly soluble in malonediphthalein. Soluble in oil, ethanol, ether. It has a light almond-like aroma and a spicy taste. It can be obtained by synthetic reaction of sodium benzoate and benzyl chloride as raw materials. It is mainly used as the solvent of artificial musk, vanillin and other spices, the fixing agent of flower flavor and the blending spice of ylang ylang and other flavors. Clinically used for scabies, but also for body lice, head lice and pubic lice.

1. Used as a solvent and flavor setting agent for musk, and used as a substitute for camphor in celluloid. It is also used as a plasticizer, especially when cellulose nitrate is mixed with resin, it can be mixed with diethyl phthalate or dibutyl ester. In addition, it is also used to prepare pertussis medicine, asthma medicine and as an insect repellent and acaricide.
2. Mainly used as a fixing agent. It is used to prepare fruit flavor and wine flavor such as strawberry, pineapple, cherry, jasmine, lily of the valley, ylang-ylang, gardenia, tuberose, lilac and other daily chemical flavor. The dosage in gum sugar is 280mg/kg; 39mg/kg in candy; 33mg/kg in baked goods; 45mg/kg in soft drinks; 12mg/kg in cold drinks.
3. Used as a solvent for acetate fiber and nitrate fiber. Plasticizer for plastics. Essence fixing agent.
4. Widely used in daily chemical flavor formulations, mainly used as fillers and orthotics, and also commonly used as diluents for many high-viscosity synthetic fragrances.
