At normal temperature and pressure, it is a colorless transparent liquid. It reacts violently with water, ammonia, ethanol and hydrogen chloride. It is dissolved in aliphatic saturated hydrocarbons such as ethane and heptane and aromatic hydrocarbons such as toluene and dimethylbenzene. Triethylaluminum is stable at room temperature. The temperature above 100℃ begins to decompose in large quantities. Sensitive to oxygen, spontaneous combustion in the air, and sometimes explosion. Explosively decomposes in contact with water and burns.

It is used as a raw material for MOCVD process and is used to deposit aluminum films in the production of diodes, transistors and integrated circuits. Used as a dopant in semiconductor manufacturing. It is also an excellent catalyst for olefin polymerization.
