Decomposition begins at 1370 ° C, and decomposes to metals molybdenum and sulfur at 1600 ° C. Molybdenum disulfide is insoluble in water, dilute acid and concentrated sulfuric acid, generally insoluble in other acids, bases, organic solvents, but soluble in boiled concentrated sulfuric acid.
