Methyl mercaptoacetate is a colorless transparent oily liquid that is soluble in water and has a foul odor of allicin. It is an important intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, pesticides, food flavorings, and tobacco flavorings, and can be used as an organic tin heat stabilizer and a polymer molecular weight regulator. Polymethyl mercaptoacetate can also be used as a low-temperature curing agent for epoxy resins, optical lenses, and manufacturing adhesives.
