Tert-butyl hydroperoxide is an organic compound with the chemical formula C4H10O2. It is a colorless, transparent liquid. The main uses of tert-butyl hydroperoxide include as a catalyst, bleaching powder and deodorant, cross-linking agent for unsaturated polyesters, polymerization initiator, rubber vulcanizer, etc. Its physical properties include a density of 0.937 g/cm³, a melting point of -2.8°C, a boiling point of 37°C (measured at 15 mm Hg), and a flash point of 26.7°C. Tert-butyl hydroperoxide is stable at 75°C, but its primary decomposition reaction can be accelerated in the presence of small amounts of copper, cobalt, and manganese salts. Because it is flammable and oxidizing, there is a risk of explosion, so violent shaking and open flames should be avoided, and it should be avoided from being placed together with reducing substances, strong acids, and strong bases.
