Cholestyramine

Cholestyramine is the most important resin drug with lipid-lowering effect. Its effect of lowering cholesterol and reducing the incidence and mortality of coronary heart disease has been confirmed by long-term large-scale clinical practice.

This product is a strongly alkaline quaternary ammonium anion exchange resin and is the most powerful drug for lowering cholesterol. After oral administration, this product combines with bile acid in the intestines, and the resulting coordination compound is not absorbed but excreted from the body with feces, thereby blocking the enterohepatic circulation of bile acid and reducing the amount of bile acid in the liver. As a result, more cholesterol in the blood is converted into bile acid, thereby reducing the cholesterol content in the blood. At the same time, bile acid is a substance necessary for the intestinal absorption of cholesterol. Bile acid combines with this product in the intestines, reducing the absorption of cholesterol in food and also playing a role in lowering cholesterol.
