Linezolid is an inhibitor of bacterial protein synthesis. Linezolid showed good antibacterial activity against methicillin-sensitive or drug-resistant staphylococcus, vancomycin-sensitive or drug-resistant enterococcus, penicillin-sensitive or drug-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae, and also against anaerobic bacteria. Unlike other drugs, linezolid does not affect peptidyl transferase activity.
