4-Tert-Butylcatechol is a white or pale yellow powder with the formula C10H14O2, soluble in methanol, carbon tetrachloride, benzene, ether, ethanol, and acetone. It is obtained by the reaction of tert-butanol with catechol or by the reaction of catechol with isobutylene. It can be used as a heat-sensitive inhibitor.

In addition, it can also be used as a passivating agent of polyurethane catalyst, insecticide and stabilizer of various organic compounds.
