- Appearance: 2-ethylbutyraldehyde is a colorless liquid with a distinctive pungent odor.
- Solubility: 2-ethylbutyraldehyde is soluble in many organic solvents, such as alcohols and ethers.
Colorless and easy to flow liquid, with cocoa and chocolate aroma, with pungent odor. Boiling point 117℃, freezing point -89℃, flash point 21℃. Vapor pressure 1306Pa(20℃). Soluble in ethanol and ether, lml soluble in about 50ml of water. Stable, but sensitive to air. Flammable. Easy to form explosive mixtures with air. Incompatible with strong base, strong reducing agent, oxidant.

Aplicació

1.2-ethylbutyraldehyde is an important chemical intermediate that can be used to synthesize a variety of organic compounds, such as rubber processing AIDS and dyes.
2. Spices. Mainly used to prepare cocoa and chocolate flavor.
Production method: From diethyl methanol and anhydrous oxalic acid or sulfuric acid condensation. The new method is produced by the reaction of a-Z, alkenyl crotonal, with iron filings and acetic acid.
