אַמפּיסיללין

Ampicillin, an organic compound with the chemical formula C16H19N3O4S, is a beta-lactam antibiotic that treats a variety of bacterial infections.

Appearance: white crystalline powder.

Solubility: Soluble in dilute acids and alkalis, slightly soluble in water, almost insoluble in chloroform.

This product is mainly used for respiratory tract infection, urinary tract infection, meningitis, Salmonella infection, and endocarditis. It is also used to prevent group B streptococcal infections in newborns and can be administered orally, intramuscularly and intravenously.

Amoxicillin is a semi-synthetic broad-spectrum penicillin with an antibacterial mechanism that prevents the synthesis of bacterial cell walls, so it not only inhibits its growth but also directly kills bacteria. Its action against Gram-positive bacteria is similar to that of penicillin, and its action against streptococcus viridans and enterococci is better. Its action against other bacteria is poor, and it is ineffective against penicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus. Among the Gram-negative bacteria, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, meningococcus, influenza bacterium, Bordetella pertussis, Escherichia coli, typhoid and paratyphoid bacilli, cholera bacillus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and other bacteria are sensitive to this drug, but it is easy to develop resistance. Pseudomonas aeruginosa and indole-positive Proteus mirabilis are resistant to this drug.
