Cepharanthine

Cepharanthine is a leukocyte-promoting drug that can promote the proliferation of bone marrow tissue and thus increase white blood cells. It is used for leukopenia. It can increase the number of white blood cells in the peripheral blood. Animal experiments have shown that it can significantly prevent the reduction of white blood cells caused by mitomycin C, but does not inhibit the antitumor effect of mitomycin C. Its mechanism of action is to promote the proliferation of bone marrow tissue, thus producing an effect of increasing white blood cells. It is used for granulocytopenia caused by cancer chemotherapy and radiotherapy, as well as other causes of leukopenia.

Cepharanthine is an alkaloid extracted from Stephania cepharantha Hayata, which has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Cepharanthine can alleviate muscle and kidney damage caused by limb ischemia/reperfusion (I/R). Cepharanthine can induce autophagy, apoptosis, and cell cycle arrest in breast cancer cells. Cepharanthine inhibits HIV-1 invasion by lowering cell membrane fluidity.
