Sorafenib is a new multitarget oral drug for the treatment of cancer. It is used to treat gastrointestinal stromal tumors and metastatic kidney cells that do not respond to or tolerate standard therapies. It selectively targets certain protein receptors and is thought to act as a molecular switch during tumor growth. Its above indications have been granted "fast track" approval status by the FDA in the United States.
