P-methylbenzoic acid is white or light yellow crystalline powder, soluble in methanol, ether, difficult to dissolve in hot water, can volatilize with water vapor; Melting point 182℃. Boiling point 275℃ (sublimation).
Nature:
- Appearance: 4-methylbenzoic acid is white crystal.
- Solubility: soluble in alcohol, ether and ketone solvents, slightly soluble in water.
- Stability: Relatively stable, but may react when encountering strong oxidants and reducing agents.

Application

1. P-methylbenzoic acid can be used for the determination of thorium, separation of calcium and strontium, mainly used in the manufacture of hemostatic aryl acid, p-methyl nitrile, p-toluenyl chloride, photosensitive materials, etc., used in organic synthesis intermediates, pesticide industry to produce fungicide phosphamide.
2. The oxidized phthalic acid can be used as an intermediate of medicine, photosensitive materials, pesticides and organic pigments. Mainly used in the manufacture of hemostatic aromatic acid, p-methyl nitrile, p-toluene formyl chloride, photosensitive materials, etc.
3.- Photosensitizer: can be used in photosensitive materials and photographic products.
