Tributyl phosphate, an organic compound with the formula C12H27O4P or (C4H9)3PO4, is a colorless, almost odorless liquid. Mainly used as a solvent, but also often as nitrocellulose, cellulose acetate, chlorinated rubber and polyvinyl chloride plasticizer, rare metal extractant, etc., heat exchange medium. It has the properties of ester and hydrolyzes under alkaline conditions. Dry hydrogen chloride is introduced at room temperature to generate chlorobutane. In the presence of boron trif luoride, it reacts with benzene to produce sec -butylbenzene and 1,4-di-sec- butylbenzene. Treat with an iline and dilute sodium hydro xide solution to generate dibutylan iline.
