Methyl benzoate is a colorless, transparent, oily liquid with a strong aroma of wintergreen oil and unanga oil. It is mainly used to prepare perfumes and artificial essential oils. It can also be used as an organic synthesis intermediate, solvent, food preservative, etc. 12

The physical properties of methyl benzoate include: chemical formula C8H8O2, molecular weight 136.15, melting point -12.3ºC, boiling point 198ºC, density 1.088 g/cm³, insoluble in water, but miscible in organic solvents such as methanol, ethanol, and ether12.

1). Used as a solvent in microanalysis and as a solvent for cellulose.
2). Used as a solvent for cellulose ester, cellulose ether, synthetic resin and rubber, and as a dyeing aid for polyester fiber, used to formulate flavor.
3). Mainly used to formulate strawberry, raspberry, pineapple, cherry, vanilla beans, nuts, rum and other flavors.
4). It is a commonly used flavor for the preparation of ylang-ylang and tuberose flavor. Also used in yellow daffodil, lavender, clove and Spanish-style leather fragrance.
