Cytosine, scientific name 4-amino-2-carbonylpyrimidine, is an organic compound with the molecular formula C4H5N3O. It is one of the main base components in nucleic acids (DNA and RNA). Cytosine can be synthesized from dimethyl uracil, and chloroacetic acid as raw materials. Used as a pharmaceutical intermediate.
