Ferrocene is a metal organic compound. Under ordinary temperature, it is a kind of orange powder with camphor smell. The melting point is 172-174ºC and the boiling point is 249ºC. It is insoluble in water, but easily soluble in benzene, ethyl ethe r, gaso line,diesel oil and other organic solvents. It can't react with acid, alkali and ultraviolet. Chemically it is stable, and decomposes at 400ºC. 

Physical and chemical properties:

Ferrocene is also known as "iron". A sandwich metal compound. Molecular formula (C5H5)2Fe or C10H10Fe. Molecular weight 186.04. Light yellow or brown acicular crystal with a camphor odor. Melting point 172.5 ~ 173ºC, boiling point 249ºC. Sublimation above 100ºC, heating to 400ºC does not decompose. Stable to bases and non-oxidizing acids. Soluble in dilut, concentrated sulfuric acid, alcohol, ether, benzene, petroleum and , insoluble in water and solution. Dissolved in dilute  and concentrated sulfuric acid to form a deep red solution with blue fluorescence. It is very stable to heat, ultraviolet light, air, acid, alkali, etc., such as heating to 400ºC without change, but sensitive to oxidants.

Although ferrocene is not oxidized by air at room temperature, it can be oxidized to ferrocene cation by air in solution. Ferrocene is a typical non-benzene aromatic compound, which can undergo typical electrophilic substitution reactions such as sulfonation, acylation and alkylation. It can also form charge transfer complex. The ultraviolet spectra of ethanol have great absorption values at 325nm and 440nm. It can be prepared in the presence of  by reacting ferrous chloride with in  as a solvent, or by removing the protons  with  in dimethoxy and dimethylsulfoxide solvents and then reacting with hydrated ferrous chloride. Used as UV absorbent, catalyst, rocket fuel additive, seismic agent, silicone resin and rubber curing agent.

Chemical properties:

orange acicular crystal. Melting point 172.5-173ºC, sublimation above 100ºC, boiling point 249ºC. Dissolved in dilute , concentrated sulfuric acid, benzene, ether, in diluteand concentrated sulfuric acid to produce blue fluorescent dark red solution. Does not melt in water, 10%  and hot concentrated, the boiling liquid of these solvents, ferrocene is neither dissolved nor decomposed, can volatilize with water vapor, has a smell similar to camphor, stable in the air, has a strong absorption of ultraviolet light, is quite stable to heat, can withstand 470ºC high temperature heating.

Fuel catalyst for rocket 

1. 1.Used as fuel catalyst for rocket (aeroplane) propellant, it can improve combustion speed by 1-4 times, lower the temperature of exhaust pipes, and avoid infrared chase.

Diesel oil

2.Used in fuel oils such as diesel oil, heavy oil, light oil ect, It can eliminate smoke, save energy and reduce air pollution. Adding 0.1% Ferrocene to diesel oil can cut down the consumption of oil by 10--14%, eliminate smoke by 30--70%, and improve power by more than 10%. 

Scale integrated circuit board
