N-Heptane

N-heptane is an organic compound with chemical formula C7H16. It is a colorless, transparent and volatile liquid. It is insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol and carbon tetrachloride, and miscible in ether, chloroform, acetone and benzene. It is mainly used as a standard and solvent for octane number determination, and can also be used for organic synthesis and preparation of experimental reagents.
