Isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) is an aliphatic diisocyanate with excellent performance. Commercial IPDI is a mixture of cis and trans isomers, and is a colorless or light yellow liquid at room temperature. The reactivity of the two isocyanate groups of IPDI is different. When amine is used as a catalyst, the primary isocyanate group is more active, while when organotin is used as a catalyst, the secondary isocyanate group is more active.

IPDI is one of the basic raw materials for making polyurethane. It can improve the light aging performance of the product and make the product have the advantage of non-yellowing color. It is also used to prepare polyurethane adhesives, etc.
