Metadiene (PD) is a very abundant conjugated diolefin in the C5 fraction of petroleum cracking. Because its boiling point is very close to other components in the C5 fraction, PD has been used as a raw material for the synthesis of petroleum resins or as a direct chemical fuel. Insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol, ether, acetone, benzene. It can irritate human eyes, skin, mucous membranes and respiratory tract. Mainly used in the manufacture of polyisoprene resin, but also used in organic synthesis.
